Plan Your Move Early - Talk to the Professionals

Hearing the words “moving day” are enough to stress out any adult. After all, this isn’t anyone’s idea of fun but burying your head in the sand will only make things more difficult. Planning your move is one of those tasks that becomes more difficult the longer you put it off.

Get Moving

Ideally, you should start planning a move 12 weeks before the big day but it can be done in less time if you are organised. There will be plenty of things to do so to make the task a little easier write a to-do list. Give yourself realistic timelines of when things need to be done and stick to them. Set yourself weekly tasks and ask everyone in your family to help. If you have children, it is important to get them involved at this stage. Children often feel left out or that their opinion doesn’t matter during a move so change that perception by allowing them to contribute.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Deciding what to take with you is one of the hardest parts of moving. You will need to divide your belongings into three categories: items that are coming with you, items to store and items you are giving away or selling. You will be surprised by the amount of stuff hiding in drawers, wardrobes and household storage spaces. To get a good idea of what you have, you will need to inspect every corner of the house and be cold-hearted. Ditch or donate what you don’t need and stick to the items you really want in your new home. Doing this will make it easier for you to get a quote from your chosen Hong Kong international moving company.

Hire Your Movers

This is one of the most important tasks and you should do it with anticipation, particularly if you are moving overseas. You will need to give your removalists even more notice if you are thinking of moving during summer as that is their busiest time. They will need to arrange a time to visit your home to perform an in-house survey in order to provide you with an accurate quote. If you are dealing with an international relocation, you will need to contact our professional moving specialists at Allied Pickfords Hong Kong, who will help you from day one to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Get Packing

Packing is not just about throwing things in a box and hoping for the best. You will need to do this by room and label each box correctly to facilitate the unpacking process. You will also require suitable packing materials to keep the contents protected during transit. Packing will take days if not weeks so if you don’t have the time to do it yourself, ask your movers to do it for you.

These are only some of the main tasks that need to be completed early on but once you have ticked them off your list, you will start feeling the weight on your shoulders feeling a little lighter.
